ABPM test in India

What is ABPM?

  • ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring) is a system of registering blood pressure in specific periods (typically every 15-60 minutes a day, and every 30-60 minutes a night).
  • It is a small, portable gadget attached on the belt and a cuff on the upper arm.

Why is ABPM done?

Doctors recommend ABPM to:

  • Diagnose white coat hypertension (only in the clinical setting, high BP).
  • Diagnose hidden hypertension (normally high in clinic, high out of clinic).

  • Patients should still do their daily activities but when the cuff inflates then they should remain still.
  • Diary can be maintained that records symptoms, activities, and sleep times.
  • The device is analyzed in the clinic after 24 hours.
