Case History:

Mrs. Sally Jemutai Maiyo is a citizen of Kenya who developed Carcinoma Cervix, a disease that had an immense impact on the quality of her life. Although she received initial treatment procedures in her home country, her complication needed more advanced and specific treatment. Mrs. Maiyo researched the options and found that having medical treatment overseas could help her, and she found medical tourism facilitator, GetWellGo, which facilitated her assessment and treatment in India.

Supported by her daughter, Mrs. Maiyo arrived at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute, which is one of the major cancer care hospitals in India. She fell under the competent care of a well-known oncologist as well as the Director of the Radiation Oncology department, Dr Swarupa Mitra.

Diagnostic and Treatment Plan:

Mrs. Maiyo also received a full clinical and radiological evaluation, such as pelvic imaging and the reviewing of the biopsy. Stage examination and consultation were then done and it was established that she had locally advanced cervical cancer.

Dr. Swarupa Mitra made a unique plan of treatment according to:

  • External Beam Radiation Therapy: This is given in 25 fractions, targeting the tumor.
  • Concurrent Chemotherapy: Indicated to improve the efficacy of radiation.
  • MRI LINAC-assisted Brachytherapy: A new dimension of image-based precise internal radiations to affect and cure a tumor with minimal side effects.

This is a state-of-art method more so the application of MRI LINAC that provided the capacity of imaging in real-time during the treatment process to provide very precise doses to the tumor with minimal interference to the healthy surrounding regions.

Outcome:

The treatment helped Ms. Maiyo. During the therapy process, the symptoms that affected her adversely, like the pelvic pain, bleeding, and fatigue started to improve significantly. Throughout the process, her care team, comprised of doctors, nurses, and support staff, was able to support not only her but also her daughter both emotionally and medically.

After treatment was completed, there was a significant regression of the tumor according to subsequent scans and the prognosis improved tremendously. She showed sincere appreciation to Dr. Swarupa Mitra and all members of the oncological department at Fortis in her regards to their high-level treatment, kindness, and professionalism.

Today:

Mrs. Sally Jemutai Maiyo has returned to Kenya with a new hope and strength. She now has a much better standard of life. Her case demonstrates that when health professionals align their practices and patient care with effective technology, it can bring change in health results.

With the perfect organization and coordination of the work of GetWellGo and Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Mrs. Maiyo, has been cared and supported until the process of recovery stage was completed.
